Energy drink banned after tests show it is fortified with generic Viagra

While we all enjoyed the odd energy drink, a drink known as Power Natural High Energy Drink SX might give you more oomph than you think.

Zambian authorities have just banned the drink after tests showed it was fortified with sildenafil citrate – a drug better known as Viagra.

A few months ago, the Uganda National Drug Authority began investigating the energy drink after a complaint was filed that a Ugandan man suffered from constant sweating and an erection nearly six hours after having drank the drink.

Authorities then sent samples to neighboring countries to confirm the result.

“The results from Zimbabwe and South Africa correlated with those obtained from the Food and Drugs Laboratory which indicated a positive presence of sildenafil citrate”, a statement from the Zambian authorities quoted by the Lusaka schedule said.

“The levels of sildenafil citrate found in the samples ranged from 68.5 mg to 71.3 mg per 250 ml of drink. However, the raw material samples tested negative for sildenafil citrate, thus confirming adulteration. presumed. “

According to the Viagra website, the average recommended dose is 50 mg, but it can range from 25 mg to 100 mg at most. Drinks can therefore kick in a bit.

Sildenafil citrate is a drug that has been shown to have interesting health effects (including reducing the risk of colorectal cancer), but the main one it is known for is to help fight erectile dysfunction.

But it’s a drug, and with that come side effects like headaches and prolonged erections, especially if you don’t check how much you should take with a healthcare practitioner.

First reported by Reuters, Zambia has ordered the maker to withdraw the drink and halt production.

But despite this, the BBC spoke to journalist Kennedy Gondwe in Lusaka, who said that not only were the drinks still on the shelves of supermarkets and street vendors, the new information increased its popularity.

Hope the people who buy it are well aware of the potential side effects.
