Internet use and Pakistani youth

Internet use is increasing worldwide but its usefulness is still questionable. The Internet has two possibilities: one provides opportunities for users and the other produces boring and inactive users.

They become a burden on society. According to a survey by Joseph Johnson, it has been learned that the world has about 5 billion active internet users. Among them, many users use the Internet for social media. About 4.7 million people use the internet for social media. Around 2 billion people use WhatsApp.

Likewise, the social networking site is growing across the globe. Pakistan is no exception and the number of internet users is constantly increasing, for example, around 83 million people use the internet in Pakistan and among them around 72 million people use social media.

The biggest internet usage in Pakistan is for WhatsApp. Interestingly, around 72 million use WhatsApp. This means that those who use the internet are definitely using WhatsApp in Pakistan. The second use is for YouTube which is also around 72 million. The third usage is for Facebook which is around 43.6 million and the fourth usage is for Twitter which is very less.

Twitter users are around 3.5 million. Online users are between the ages of 18 and 29 all over the world, but Pakistan has even underage internet social network users. Interestingly, it is not limited to only urban spaces and its use is around 60% about 40% of people use it in rural areas. Most people use the Internet for 3 or 4 purposes. One of them is communication. The second use is connectivity and the third is entertainment.

Using the Internet for education is the fourth major use. According to an assessment by the Department of Sociology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistani youth use the internet for entertainment, averaging four to six hours of internet usage per day. Meanwhile, this youngster only uses 5-30 minutes of internet for academic purposes. Many of these young people only use it for entertainment. These active users become a liability for the country as this figure is reversed in the rest of the world. For example, globally, four to six hours of internet use is devoted to studying, but in Pakistan it is only 5 to 30 minutes. The rest of the world uses the internet for about 5-30 minutes for entertainment.

What can be done for effective uses of internet technologies for youth growth and development? For example, young people can earn money through freelance writing, content writing, data entry, blogging, and writing articles for newspapers and for online writing. They can also earn money by using different search engines for their income. It is understandable that every user is not up to scratch to earn money efficiently using internet technologies. They don’t have the right skills, but those skills can be learned effectively using these technologies. A number of search engines, especially YouTube, is one of the main sources of academic learning. A person can improve his skills, he is able to manage effective income and earn money. Wealthy people all over the world must earn money using online sources or internet technologies or affiliated industries. For example, Amazon is one of the fastest growing global seller websites all over the world.

Even locally, Daraz is a prominent website in Pakistan or Alibaba that can provide many opportunities for young people. They can earn money while effectively using all these Internet technologies. Not only will they be able to build their skills while learning all these technologies, but they will also be able to earn money by selling online. With online trading, they are able to earn a lot of money. E-commerce has the opportunity to read to citizens of the world. A person can earn money across the world using the internet. They just put the ad online and then they provide the quality and quantity of the product.

It would be like reaching every corner of the world through the internet, but unfortunately many Pakistanis have not used it for productivity. This led to making internet users annoying. Rather than being effective Internet users, young people are simply wasting time and resources. Now is a good time for these people to learn how they can be effective learners and productive internet users.

Once they are the effective learner of the internet user, they would create opportunities for themselves as well as their fellow citizens. They could also earn money not only for themselves, but also for the country. A huge foreign income would come into Pakistan through online business or freelance content writing online. This money will not only be used by the individual himself, but it will also contribute to the economic growth of the country. The country’s business volume would increase steadily. It is high time that young people understand its potential and try to learn how to use the Internet effectively and productively. Internet use is an opportunity and this opportunity should be used productively.
