The adoption rate of the platform has increased significantly from 73% in 2021 to 77% this year 2022. On the other hand, AWS has seen a decline in the adoption rate. In 2021, it had an adoption rate of 77%, which dropped to 76% in 2022.
Jonathan Merry, CEO of BanklessTimes, said, “More and more companies are now turning to Microsoft Azure at the expense of AWS. For example, many on-premises workloads transitioned to cloud-based solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. , accelerated the popularity and growth of Microsoft Azure, outperforming AWS in several key categories.”
How long will Microsoft Azure stay on top?
Our analysts had already predicted that Azure would outperform AWS. So it was only a matter of time and whether they (Azure) would be able to maintain that status. Microsoft Azure has surpassed AWS in several categories, such as the Department of Defense’s Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure contract.
However, despite Azure being the preferred option, the state of the Flexera 2022 Cloud Report said the opposite. AWS is still at the top as the leading cloud provider. It has 41% SMB-critical workloads, compared to 31% on Azure.
Additionally, AWS is a leader in public cloud Iaas market to share. On the raw market share, AWS holds 47%, while Microsoft Azure holds only 14%.
As it stands, it may not be clear how long Microsoft Azure will remain at the top.
Growing enterprise interest offers an opportunity for Azure to maintain its edge over AWS. However, it will not be easy. The latter still dominates the public cloud IaaS market. It also hosts larger workloads than the former.
Public cloud trends
Only 26% of companies admitted to relying on cloud-managed solutions. service providers to manage their public cloud platforms. However, more than 57% of them outsource their public cloud missions.
The analysis also shows that 89% of enterprises prefer multicloud configurations (public and private) for their workloads. Almost all of them (96%) have at least one public cloud. This trend shows that most people use the public cloud more than any other option.
