VinFast launches usage-based battery rental for VF 8 and VF 9 models

Vietnamese automaker VinFast has announced pricing for its battery rental program in the United States along with detailed pricing for the VF 8 and VF 9 all-electric SUVs. VinFast will sell its models separately from the batteries which will be offered in two rental plans. different subscription based on usage.

Starting with battery rental options, the Flexible plan has a monthly fee of $35 for the VF 8 and $44 for the VF 9, allowing up to 310 miles of travel each month. If customers exceed this number, VinFast will charge them $0.11 per mile for VF 8 and $0.15 per mile for VF 9.

Those who travel more and don’t like the restrictions can opt for the fixed plan which allows unlimited autonomy and costs $110 for the VF 8 and $160 for the VF 9. As a welcome gift to the first customers who make reservations and deposits in 2022, VinFast offers the Fixed Package as a guaranteed lifetime subscription that will automatically transfer to the future owner of the vehicle if the original purchaser decides to sell it.

The option of renting the battery instead of buying it with the car has certain advantages. VinFast offers a lifetime warranty on the battery, which means it will cover all maintenance and repair costs, and even replace the battery for free when its capacity drops below 70%. The automaker suggests its current battery subscription policy will continue until the end of 2023. After that, it plans to move to a 50-50 lease-to-own scheme.
